As racer's, we've all had our Rubicon
In 49 B.C., Julius Ceasar led his forces back across the Rubicon River (more like a stream) from Gaul into Italy, defying orders fromthe Roman Senate and beginning a civil war that would eventually leave Ceasar as the emporer of the Roman empire. Since that time, 'crossing the Rubicon' has come to mean the comission of an irrevocable act that locks one to a cause of action - crossing the 'line in the sand' or accepting the dreaded 'double dawg dare'.
My rubicon was my first autocross and time trial. My first club race was at Road Atlanta in 1994 - there was no return to NO racing in my life. Since then the only reason to look back was to check my mirrors after a pass . . . okay, okay, . . . maybe occasionally for faster, overtaking cars.
